Wood Finishing Methods
Polskie Dęby usually provide boards pre-finished with oil or oilwax. This type of finishing guarantees longer durability and shine. Below you can find the difference between oil, oilwax and varnish finishing.
Varnish
Appearance
Thick and clean protective coating gives the wood a slight shine. More durable than oil, gives the floorboard a smooth texture.
Maintenace
Easy to clean.
For residential purposes, once or twice a year. For commercial purposes once or twice a month.

Repair
All repairs must be carried out by professionals or by a person capable of repairing solid wood floors.
Natural oil
Appearance
Thin, see-through protective coating that gives the wood a natural look.
Smaller durability than varnish, doesn’t cover up the texture of the wood.
Environment friendly because our oil is made of eco-materials so it is 100% natural.
Maintenace
Sweep everyday in order to have durable floors.
CAUTION: you should remove stains and blemishes within 16 hours, so the liquid doesn’t get through the wood.
For residential purposes, once or twice a year. For commercial purposes, once or twice a month.
For more information visit our technical section about maintenance.
Repair
Light, single scratches can be easily fixed by grinding the damaged surface and later on by oiling it. Deep scratches or damages should be fixed by a professional.
NATURAL OILWAX
Appearance
Oilwax protects the floorboard two ways. Oil penetrates the wood protecting it from staining from the inside, while wax leaves a thin layer on top of the floor protecting it from scratching and dents.
Lower durability than varnish, doesn’t cover up the wood texture, presence of wax protects from scratching.
Just like oil, it’s made of only matural materials.

Everyday sweeping, cleaning one a month, for residential purposes once or twice a year. For commercial purposes once or twice a month.
